Escaping the Corruption of Lust
Scripture
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
– 2 Peter 1:4 (KJV)
Ponder This
Lust is more than desire. It is desire disconnected from Our Father’s design. Lust says “I need this now.” Holy Spirit says “Trust My process.”
Lust always pulls outward toward temporary relief, but leaves behind inner corruption - guilt, shame, spiritual dullness, emotional confusion, and sometimes even physical consequences.
That’s why scripture calls it corruption. Corruption means decay from the inside. But here’s the shout of hope in this verse:
You are not fighting lust from a place of weakness. You escape it by becoming a partaker of the divine nature.
That means:
You don’t just try harder.
You receive Our Father’s nature working in you.
You exchange urges for identity.
You shift from craving to communion.
Lust loses power when:
your spirit is full
your mind is renewed
your heart is anchored in truth
You don’t defeat lust by obsessing over the temptation, you defeat it by feeding your new nature until the old cravings starve. Freedom is not just resisting something. It’s replacing it with something greater.
Reflection
What desire have I been trying to satisfy outside of Our Father’s order?
Am I feeding my spirit as much as I’m fighting temptation?
What promise of Our Father can I stand on when urges rise?
Prayer
Father, thank You that I am not trapped in the corruption of this world. Your Word says I can partake in Your divine nature, and I receive that now. Where lust has tried to pull me, strengthen my spirit. Where desire has been misplaced, realign my heart. Where weakness has whispered, let Your promises speak louder. I choose communion over craving. I choose purity over impulse. I choose Your design over temporary relief. Help me walk in the freedom You already made available. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
