There Is a Spirit of Error

There Is a Spirit of Error

Scripture

"Dearly loved friends, don’t always believe everything you hear simply because someone says it is a message from God. Test it first to see if it truly is, for there are many false prophets roaming around in the world. Here’s the test for those with the genuine Spirit of God: they will confess Jesus as the Christ who has come in the flesh. Everyone who does not acknowledge that Jesus is from God has the spirit of antichrist, which you heard was coming, and is already active in the world.

Little children, you can be certain that you belong to God and have conquered them, for the One who is living in you is far greater than the one who is in the world.

They belong to this world and they articulate the spirit of this world, and the world listens to them. But we belong to God, and whoever truly knows God listens to us. Those who refuse to listen to us do not belong to God. That’s how we can know the difference between the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.”

1 John 4:1-6 (TPT)

Ponder This

Scripture reveals that there is not only a Spirit of Truth, but also a spirit of error (deception). Not every voice, teaching, trend, or spiritual experience comes from Our Father. Some influences sound inspiring, wise, and even spiritual, yet they subtly pull hearts away from the truth of Jesus Christ.

That is why we are instructed to test what we hear. The question is not whether something sounds good, the question is whether it agrees with Our Father’s Word and points us to Jesus.

The encouraging news is that we do not have to live in fear of deception. Holy Spirit lives within us and leads us into truth. John reminds us that, “the One who is living in you is far greater than the one who is in the world.” As we remain close to Our Father, rooted in Scripture, and sensitive to Holy Spirit, we can discern the difference between truth and error.

Reflection

Am I testing what I hear by Our Father’s Word, or am I accepting things simply because they sound spiritual, popular, or appealing?

Prayer

Our Father, thank You for giving us Your Spirit and Your Word. Thank You for helping us recognize the difference between truth and deception. Thank You for guarding our hearts from error and keeping us anchored in Jesus Christ. Give us discernment to follow Your voice above every other voice. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Declaration

I belong to Our Father. I will walk in the Spirit of Truth, test every voice by Our Father’s Word, and remain anchored in Jesus Christ.
