BE
Scripture
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
Ponder This
Scripture begins with a command: Be.
Be sober.
Be vigilant.
The enemy desires to devour, but believers are not called to panic, we are called to be aware. To be sober means to be clear-minded and spiritually alert. It means we are not distracted, careless, or spiritually asleep. To be vigilant means to stay watchful. It is the posture of someone who understands that spiritual battles are real and that we must guard our hearts, our faith, and our focus.
The enemy desires to steal peace, weaken faith, and distract people from their purpose. His strategy often begins with subtle things like discouragement, offense, temptation, and confusion. Yet we are instructed to BE sober and BE vigilant, recognizing the devil's tactics and refusing to partner with them.
Jesus already revealed the enemy’s intention.
John 10:10 (KJV)
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
The enemy seeks to devour, but Jesus came to give life more abundantly.
So today, remember this simple instruction:
Be aware.
Be watchful.
Be rooted in Christ.
When we remain anchored in Him, the enemy cannot consume what Our Father has already given us.
Reflect
Am I spiritually alert, or have I allowed distraction or discouragement to dull my awareness?
Prayer
Our Father, help us to be sober and vigilant in our walk with You. Give us spiritual awareness so we can recognize the enemy’s schemes and refuse to give them space in our lives. Strengthen our faith, guard our hearts, and keep us rooted in Christ so that we walk in the life You have given us. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
