Do You Remember?
Scripture:
“Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”
— Acts 11:16–18 (NKJV)
Ponder This
“Do you remember?” It’s more than a question. It’s a divine prompt that reconnects us to Our Father's words when His actions unfold in ways we didn’t expect.
Peter stood before fellow believers, explaining how Holy Spirit moved powerfully among the Gentiles - people the Jewish believers had not anticipated being included so fully. At that moment, Peter remembered the Word of the Lord. The promise Jesus made came rushing back, anchoring Peter’s understanding of what God was doing.
“Who was I that I could withstand God?” (v. 17)
This is the heart of remembrance. When we remember what Our Father said, we stop resisting how He chooses to fulfill it. Peter didn’t argue with Our Father’s methods, he aligned with His mission. The others, upon hearing, became silent. Their silence wasn’t disbelief; it was reverence. And then, they glorified Our Father.
Remembrance leads to revelation. Revelation leads to worship.
Our Father’s promises are not confined to our expectations. He often moves beyond the boundaries we draw. When He does, our responsibility is not to control His move but to remember His word, recognize His hand, and rejoice in His faithfulness.
The early church witnessed Holy Spirit poured out on unexpected people in unexpected places. Likewise, Our Father will bring to fulfillment promises in your life in ways you never imagined. When He does, pause, remember, and give Him glory.
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your unchanging Word and Your surprising ways. Holy Spirit, thank You for bringing to my remembrance every promise You have spoken. Thank You for helping me not to resist the ways You choose to work. Thank You for softening my heart to rejoice when You move, even when it’s outside my expectations. I choose to stand in awe, remember Your Word, and glorify You in every season. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
