How Should We Treat Evil?

How Should We Treat Evil?

Scripture

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Romans 12:21 (KJV)

Ponder This

We live in a world where evil is real. We encounter dishonesty, hatred, injustice, temptation, and spiritual opposition. Yet Scripture does not tell us to fight evil with more evil. Instead, Our Father teaches us a Kingdom way of responding.

When evil comes against us, we are not called to become like it. We are called to overcome it. The word “overcome” means to conquer or gain victory. The victory is not found in revenge, bitterness, or retaliation. The victory is found in responding according to the character of Christ.

Jesus demonstrated this perfectly. He was mocked, rejected, falsely accused, and crucified. Yet He responded with truth, love, forgiveness, and obedience to Our Father. Evil did not change His nature. This does not mean we ignore evil or pretend it does not exist. Scripture calls us to discern evil, resist evil, expose evil, and depart from evil. But we must never allow evil to shape our hearts.

As the Bride of Christ, we overcome evil by:

  • Walking in truth instead of deception.

  • Choosing forgiveness instead of bitterness.

  • Blessing instead of cursing.

  • Loving instead of hating.

  • Obeying Our Father instead of following the crowd.

Every day we have a choice. Will we react according to the flesh, or will we respond according to the Spirit of Our Father? The more we abide in Christ, the more His goodness flows through us, and evil loses its power to influence our hearts.

More Scriptures

“Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.”

Psalm 34:14 (KJV)

“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”

1 Thessalonians 5:22 (KJV)

“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.”

Romans 12:17 (KJV)

Reflection

Am I allowing evil to influence my response, or am I overcoming evil with the goodness, truth, and love of Christ?

Prayer

Our Father, thank You for showing me the way of Christ. Thank You for helping me to recognize evil, resist its influence, and never allow it to shape my heart. Thank You for teaching me to overcome evil with good, to walk in truth, and to respond in the power of Your Spirit. I choose for my life to reflect the character of Jesus in every situation. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
