Humility is Listening
Scripture
“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”
James 1:19–20 (KJV)
“When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.”
Proverbs 11:2 (KJV)
Ponder This
Humility is not only seen in what we say. Humility is often revealed in how well we listen. Pride rushes to speak. Pride interrupts. Pride assumes it already knows. But humility pauses. Humility leans in and listens, not only to Holy Spirit, but to the people that are led by Holy Spirit.
When we listen, we create space for wisdom to enter. When we listen, we allow understanding to grow. When we listen, we guard ourselves from reacting out of emotion rather than responding in righteousness. Many conflicts, broken relationships, and missed instructions from Our Father happen because we spoke before we listened.
World Changers, humility slows us down long enough to hear:
what Our Father is saying
what people are truly communicating
what wisdom is trying to teach us
The humble heart yields prayerfully:
“Lord, teach me.
Help me hear before I speak.”
Because wisdom often arrives through listening.
Prayer
Our Father. I choose humility today. Teach me to be swift to hear and slow to speak. Guard my heart from pride that rushes to respond before understanding. Help me listen carefully to Your voice, to Your Word, and to the people You place in my life. Give me the humility that produces wisdom. Shape my responses so they reflect Your righteousness and not my emotions. I choose to pause, to listen, and to learn. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
