Prayer vs. Casting Out: Knowing the Difference
Scripture
“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.”
Mark 16:17 (KJV)
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
James 5:16 (KJV)
Ponder This
There is a clear difference between praying for someone and casting out spirits. Both are biblical, both are powerful, but they are not the same assignment.
1. Prayer Talks to God - Deliverance Talks to the Enemy
When you pray, you speak to Our Father for their healing, strength, and comfort. When you cast out, you are not asking; you are commanding the evil, foul spirit to leave in Jesus’ name.
2. Prayer Ministers to the Person - Deliverance Breaks What’s Oppressing Them
Prayer restores the heart. Deliverance removes the bondage.
3. Prayer Asks — Deliverance Commands
Prayer: “Father, touch them.” Deliverance: “Evil, Foul spirit, leave now in Jesus’ Name.”
One operates in compassion. The other in authority.
4. When to Pray — When to Cast Out
Pray when the person is hurting, confused, or discouraged. Cast out when there is torment, cycles, heaviness, or Holy Spirit reveals spiritual oppression.
Prayer
Father, thank You for teaching me when to intercede and when to take authority. Give me wisdom, boldness, and thank You for Holy Spirit clarity. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Declaration
I pray with compassion, and I command with authority. I am led by Holy Spirit in all things.
