Acceleration!
Scripture Focus:
“And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.” – 1 Kings 18:46
Devotion:
The story of Elijah running ahead of King Ahab’s chariot is a powerful example of divine acceleration. Imagine it: a prophet, on foot, outrunning a royal chariot pulled by horses—an impossible feat in the natural. But Elijah wasn’t operating in his own strength. The “hand of the Lord” was upon him, and that supernatural empowerment enabled him to run with a speed and endurance that defied logic.
This moment didn’t happen randomly. It followed Elijah’s faith-filled prayer for rain after a long season of drought. Elijah trusted God, acted in obedience, and prepared himself by girding up his loins—tying up his robe to run freely. When the rain finally came, God accelerated Elijah to run ahead of Ahab, symbolizing how divine empowerment allows God’s people to move forward with purpose, strength, and divine timing.
Elijah’s run was not just about speed; it was about alignment. God’s power moved him ahead of Ahab’s chariot to Jezreel, the city where significant events were about to unfold. Similarly, when God accelerates you, it’s not for your glory but for His purposes. He positions you exactly where you need to be, at just the right moment.
Sometimes in life, it feels like we’re waiting endlessly, like the drought Elijah prayed through. But when God’s timing comes, acceleration happens. What may have taken years in your own strength can happen in a moment by God’s power. The key is to be ready, as Elijah was, to act when the hand of the Lord moves. Prepare your heart, your mind, and your spirit. Trust God’s timing and His process.
Just as Elijah outran the chariot, God can supernaturally propel you past obstacles, delays, and even people who seem to be ahead of you. When His hand is on you, there is no limit to what can be accomplished.
Challenge:
Ask God for the faith to trust His timing and the readiness to move when He accelerates His plan in your life. Take one action step today to align with His purpose—whether through prayer, preparation, or obedience.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the example of Elijah, who trusted in Your power to accelerate him beyond natural limitations. I ask for Your hand to guide me, strengthen me, and position me for Your divine purposes. Help me to be prepared and willing when You call me to move. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Reflection:
What would it look like for God to place His hand of acceleration on your life? Are you ready to gird up your loins and run when He calls?
