Eliminate But

Eliminate But

Scripture:

James 5:12 (KJV):

“But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.”

Romans 4:20 (KJV):

“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.”

James 1:6–7 (KJV):

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.”

Ponder This:

We often come to God with faith on our lips but hesitation in our hearts. We say:

“I believe God can heal me, but the doctor’s report says otherwise.”

“I know God is a provider, but I don’t see how the bills will get paid.”

“The Lord is my strength, but I feel too weak.”

That one little word — “but” — becomes a thief. It cancels out our declaration of faith. It invites doubt into the same space where faith should reign.

When we eliminate the “but,” we give God the clean, undiluted faith He deserves. Abraham didn’t say, “I believe You, Lord, but Sarah is old.” Instead, as Romans 4:20 says, “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.”

The “but” divides us. It makes us double-minded. And James 1:6–8 tells us that a wavering, double-minded person cannot expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Today, God is calling us to refine our conversations. Our words must be fire, not ashes.

Instead of saying:

“I know God will make a way, but I don’t see it yet…”

say:

“I know God will make a way, and I will see it in His time.”

Reflection

• Where have you been canceling your own prayer with a “but”?

• What would happen if you spoke faith without conditions or excuses?

Prayer

Father God, forgive me for the times I’ve weakened my faith with a “but.” Help me to refine my words and my heart. I choose to stand on Your promises with full confidence. I choose to let my “yes” be yes in faith, and my “no” be no to doubt. I yield my will to trust You completely. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Activation

Start catching yourself every time you say “but” after a faith declaration. Replace it with “and” or simply end the sentence in faith. Speak with boldness - and watch your words carry fire and power.
