Fix Your Gaze, Align Your Soul

Scripture Focus:

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” – Hebrews 12:2

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28

Reflection:

Pain and adversity are not purposeless. They are birthing grounds for something greater—God’s purpose in us. Fixing our eyes on Jesus means choosing to elevate His purpose over our pain and surrendering to God’s will over our own desires. But what does that really look like?

1. Recognize the Distraction:

The enemy thrives in chaos, using our circumstances to distract and discourage us. “Closing the gates of hell” begins by choosing not to entertain doubts, self-pity, or bitterness. Instead, actively remind yourself, “This isn’t just about the situation—it’s about God working out His purpose in me.”

2. Shift Your Focus to His Purpose:

Jesus Himself endured the cross because He was focused on “the joy set before Him” (Hebrews 12:2). Practically, this means acknowledging the pain but keeping the bigger picture in mind—what is God teaching, growing, or birthing in you? Trust that He holds the keys to every heart and circumstance, turning them as He wills (Proverbs 21:1). Romans 8:28 reminds us that in all things—even the painful ones—God is working for our good and aligning them with His purpose. Write it down, declare it in prayer, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal how this moment fits into God’s plan.

3. Practice Obedience Daily:

Jesus kept His soul aligned with the Father’s will through prayer and surrender. Each day, ask:

• “Father, what step of obedience can I take today?”

• “How can I honor You in this situation?”

This might look like offering forgiveness, speaking life over a tough situation, or simply remaining silent when tempted to lash out.

4. Endure with Expectation:

Pregnancy is the perfect metaphor. The labor pains are uncomfortable, but they precede delivery. God’s purposes often require us to endure what feels unbearable, trusting that He will bring forth His promises. Keep declaring: “The pain is producing purpose!”

Prayer:

Father, help me to fix my eyes on Jesus and align my soul with Your will. When adversity comes, give me strength to endure and faith to believe that You are working all things together for my good and Your purpose. Remind me that You hold the keys to every heart and turn them according to Your will. Teach me to trust You, even when the process is uncomfortable, and to press forward with confidence that delivery is coming. In Jesus name. Amen.

Takeaway Action:

Write down one area where you feel “labor pains” in your life. Beside it, jot down one way you can practically shift your focus to Jesus and His purpose today. Share this with a trusted friend or prayer partner for accountability.
