From Disappointment to Divine Appointment

Scripture Focus:

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” – Proverbs 13:12 (NIV)

Devotion:

Disappointment is the gap between what you expected and what actually happened. It’s a space where doubt, frustration, and even bitterness try to take root. But what if disappointment isn’t a dead end but a doorway?

God never wastes disappointment. He invites us to process it with Him. That means instead of burying the pain or pretending it doesn’t hurt, we bring it into His presence. We grieve what didn’t happen, but we also ask God to show us what He’s doing now.

David poured out his disappointments in the Psalms, but he always ended with trust: “But I trust in You, Lord…” (Psalm 31:14). Processing disappointment God’s way allows healing to flow and hope to be restored.

Reflection:

• What disappointment am I holding onto today?

• Have I brought it honestly to God, or am I trying to carry it alone?

• How can I shift my focus from what didn’t happen to what God might be doing next?

Prayer:

Lord, I lay my disappointments at Your feet. I confess the hurt, the questions, and the frustration. But I choose to believe that You are still writing my story. Turn this disappointment into a divine appointment for Your glory. Restore my hope and remind me that You work all things together for my good. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Action Step:

Identify one disappointment you’ve been carrying. Then, write a prayer releasing it to God and ask Him to show you a glimpse of His plan, even in this.
