He Prayed for Me
Scripture Focus: Read the entire chapter- John 17
Highlighted Verse: “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word.”
— John 17:20 (NKJV)
Reflection:
John 17 is a sacred glimpse into Jesus’ heart just before His betrayal and crucifixion. Known as the High Priestly Prayer, this chapter reveals how deeply Jesus loves, not just His disciples, but you. Yes...you were on His mind in that moment.
Jesus prayed three things:
1. Glorify Me, Father (vv.1–5): Jesus acknowledged that the time had come for His ultimate sacrifice. But His request for glory wasn’t about earthly fame - it was about finishing the work the Father gave Him, so that God would be glorified through Him.
2. Keep them, Father (vv.6–19): He prayed for His disciples - for their protection, sanctification, and unity. He knew the world’s hate would be fierce, but He entrusted them to the Father’s care.
3. Unite them, Father (vv.20–26): Here’s where it becomes deeply personal. Jesus prayed for all who would believe through the message of the apostles. That includes you and me. He asked that we would be one, just as He and the Father are one, and that we would be filled with His love and see His glory.
What a gift - to be the subject of Christ’s prayer. He wasn’t praying for material things, but for eternal things: unity, love, truth, and glory. He prayed that the world would know Him through our love and oneness.
Takeaway Thought:
Jesus didn’t just die for you. He prayed for you. And, He still lives to intercede for you (Romans 8:34). When you feel unseen or overwhelmed, remember...He has already prayed for your strength, your unity with others, and your future in His glory.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for praying for me. Let the reality of Your intercession give me courage, confidence, and clarity today. Help me walk in the love You modeled, and unify me with others who call on Your name. May Your glory be revealed in and through my life. In Your name I pray and trust. Amen.
