Scripture:
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” — Philippians 2:3-4
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” — Romans 12:1
Reflection:
Living beyond yourself means offering your life as a living sacrifice to God. This is a daily decision to surrender your plans, comfort, and desires for God’s greater purpose. Philippians reminds us to value others above ourselves, and Romans shows us that this selflessness is an act of holy worship.
Jesus embodied this when He allowed interruptions to become opportunities for ministry. Whether stopping to heal the woman with the issue of blood or welcoming children when others saw them as distractions, He taught us that serving others often requires being interruptible and open to divine appointments.
This kind of life is impossible without the Holy Spirit’s guidance. He leads us to notice where God is working and empowers us to serve with humility and grace.
Application:
1. Surrender Daily: Begin each day by praying, “Lord, I offer myself to You as a living sacrifice. Use me for Your glory.”
2. Be Spirit-Led: Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in recognizing how, where, and when to serve. Pray, “Holy Spirit, open my heart to Your direction and help me hear Your voice clearly.”
Follow Him!
3. Be Interruptible: Stay flexible and ready for divine appointments. When interruptions come, ask, “Lord, is this an opportunity You’ve placed before me?” and respond with love and grace.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I surrender myself to You as a living sacrifice. Holy Spirit, guide me to see the opportunities You place in my path and give me the courage to be interruptible. Help me to hear Your voice and serve with humility and love, always reflecting Your glory. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
