Perfection Is Not Required, But Confession Is - So Is Trust

Scripture:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

-1 John 1:9 (ESV)

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”

-1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (ESV)

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

-Psalm 37:4 (ESV)

God’s process for making us whole is not rooted in our perfection, but in our surrender. Confession is the gateway to restoration. Once we confess our sins, we must also trust that God is actively sanctifying us, setting us apart for His purpose and bringing us into a state of wholeness.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 assures us that the God of peace is sanctifying us completely - spirit, soul, and body. His commitment to our wholeness is not partial; it is thorough and faithful. The work He begins, He finishes.

But here’s the key: Confession must be coupled with trust. Trust that God is working within you, shaping you, healing you, and making you whole. It’s not about striving for perfection but allowing the Perfect One to work in you.

When you delight yourself in the Lord, trusting His process and yielding to His sanctifying work, “He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4). Why? Because your desires will align with His - wholeness, purity, freedom, and empowerment to fight effectively.

Reflection:

• After you confess, are you trusting that God is sanctifying you, or are you striving to be perfect on your own?

• What desires has God placed in your heart for healing, growth, and effective service?

• How can you actively trust His process of sanctification today?

Prayer:

Father, I thank You for the power of confession and Your faithfulness to forgive and cleanse me. I trust that You are sanctifying me - spirit, soul, and body - bringing me to wholeness for Your glory. Help me to release perfectionism and embrace the process of wholeness through Your power. As I delight myself in You, thank You for aligning my desires with Yours and equipping me to fight effectively. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
