Putting Our Hands to the Family Business

Putting Our Hands to the Family Business

Scripture Focus:

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Reflection:

When ABBA calls us to do His work, it’s not just a task—it’s our family’s inheritance. As His children, we are invited into His “business,” a legacy of love, grace, and purpose. This isn’t work we carry out as strangers or mere laborers. Instead, we approach it as sons and daughters, fully equipped to carry out what our Father has already prepared for us to do.

Our flesh often makes the work feel heavy—burdened by fear, doubt, or striving. But ABBA has designed His work to be light and joyful. Jesus reminds us: “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). When we embrace the work as our family business, we realize it’s not something we do alone or in our own strength. It’s who we are, and it’s what we do as part of God’s eternal plan.

When we stop striving and start trusting, the work becomes lighter, easier, and even enjoyable. Partnering with our Father is not a burden—it’s a privilege and a reflection of our identity as His children.

Questions for Reflection:

1. Do you see the work God calls you to as a family inheritance or a burden?

2. How does trusting in God’s design make the work feel lighter and easier?

3. What mindset shift can you make to approach the work with joy and confidence?

Practical Steps to Carry Out the Family Business:

1. Shift Your Mindset: Remind yourself that this is your Father’s work, not just a task. You’re part of a divine legacy.

2. Rely on Grace: Stop striving in your own strength. Invite God to help you approach the work with ease and joy.

3. Celebrate Your Role: See the work as a privilege, an extension of who you are as God’s child, and trust that He equips you to fulfill it.

Prayer:

ABBA, thank You for inviting me into Your family business and giving me the privilege of carrying out Your work. Help me to approach it with joy and ease, knowing that it’s my inheritance and part of my identity as Your child. Teach me to trust in Your strength, not my own, and to see the work as light and fulfilling. May everything I do bring glory to You. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Challenge:

This week, as you go about your work—whether big or small—remind yourself: “This is my Father’s business, and I am honored to carry it out.” Shift your perspective from striving to partnership, and watch how the work becomes lighter and more joyful.
