Sit Still in the Presence of God
Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Devotional Thought:
In a world that constantly demands motion, sitting still can feel like doing nothing. But in God’s presence, sitting still is an act of surrender. It’s where our battles are won without lifting a finger, where clarity is given without striving, and where our hearts finally exhales.
When we sit still in God’s presence, we allow Him to speak louder than our thoughts, louder than fears, and louder than our schedules.
Stillness doesn’t mean passivity, it means positioning ourselves to receive. To hear. To heal. To be held. Sometimes God doesn’t move until we stop. He waits for us to sit still (submit; surrender) so we can experience Him not as a distant rescuer, but as an ever-present wonderful and loving Father.
What It Looks Like Practically:
• Sit. No agenda. No noise. Just stillness.
• Let your heart rest in His love.
• Release the need to figure it all out and simply sit in His presence.
Stillness is where strength is restored. Peace returns. And God reminds us: We’re not in this alone.
Prayer:
Father God, Holy One, teach us to sit still in Your presence. Calm us where our minds are busy and weary. Help us to rest in You. We don’t want to rush past what You’re trying to show us. We choose to let stillness be our sanctuary today. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
