Ask Jesus and Watch Your Faith Increase

Ask Jesus and Watch Your Faith Increase

Scripture:

“Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?”

Matthew 11:2-3 (KJV)

Reflection:

John the Baptist had spent his life preparing the way for the Messiah. He boldly proclaimed Jesus as “the Lamb of God” (John 1:29), yet when he found himself imprisoned, his faith wavered. He sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the One, or should we look for another?”

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where life isn’t going as you expected? You believed in God’s promises, yet trials, setbacks, and uncertainty made you question, "God, are You really here? Did I misunderstand what You were doing?"

Jesus didn’t rebuke John for asking. Instead, He sent back evidence:

“Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (Matthew 11:4-5)

Jesus was reminding John that even if things didn’t look the way he expected, God’s plan was still unfolding.

Application:

1. God’s Plan May Look Different Than Expected – John expected a powerful, conquering Messiah, but Jesus came first as a healer, teacher, and Savior. Sometimes, God is working in ways we don’t recognize at first.

2. Jesus Is Still the One – When doubts arise, look back at the faithfulness of God. Reflect on how He has worked in your life and the lives of others. His track record is proof that He is trustworthy.

3. Bring Your Questions to Jesus – John’s greatest strength was not in having all the answers but in going straight to Jesus for confirmation. When you have doubts, seek Him in prayer, in His Word, and through testimonies of His faithfulness.

Prayer:

Father God, in moments of doubt, remind me of Your faithfulness. When life doesn’t go as expected, help me to trust that You are still at work. I choose to believe that You are the One, and I will not look for another. Strengthen my faith and open my eyes to see Your goodness today. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Final Thought:

John’s question wasn’t a sign of failure, it was an opportunity to refocus on Jesus. If you’re in a season of waiting, questioning, or uncertainty, look to Him again. He is still the One.
