What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do

What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do

Scripture:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

— Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Devotion:

There are moments in life when the path ahead is unclear, and the weight of uncertainty feels overwhelming. You don’t know what to do. Decisions seem impossible, and the fear of making the wrong choice can paralyze you. If you’ve been there, you’re not alone.

The Bible offers us a beautiful and simple solution: trust God. When we don’t know what to do, God’s Word encourages us to stop leaning on our own limited understanding and fully rely on Him. Trusting God means surrendering our control and admitting, “I don’t have all the answers, but You do.”

When you feel stuck, take a moment to pray and ask God for wisdom. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” God is ready and willing to guide you.

It also helps to be still and listen. Sometimes God’s guidance comes in quiet moments when we slow down, away from noise and distractions. Meditate on Scripture, journal your thoughts, and ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate the next step.

Remember, God’s promise is that He will make your paths straight - clear and purposeful. You may not have all the answers today, but He will lead you one step at a time.

Prayer:

Lord, when I don’t know what to do, I can choose to trust You completely. I do not want to lean on my own understanding. I desire to yield myself - to seek Your wisdom and guidance. I do not desire an anxious heart. I yield my free will to embrace Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Show me the next step and give me the courage to take it. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
