Yield Yourself to Self-Control

Yield Yourself to Self-Control

Scripture:

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”

Proverbs 25:28 (NIV)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV)

Self-control isn’t about willpower...it’s about yielding. It’s not your flesh trying harder...it’s your spirit surrendering deeper. The more you yield to Holy Spirit, the more you gain mastery over the impulses that seek to rule you.

Yielding to self-control means choosing discipline over desire, peace over panic, and purpose over pressure. It’s the quiet strength to say “no” when everything else screams “yes.” It’s the wisdom to pause, the courage to wait, and the grace to walk away.

Self-control isn’t just behavior modification, it’s Spirit transformation. It’s a fruit of the Spirit, which means it doesn’t grow through striving, but through staying connected to the Vine.

When you yield to God, He gives you the strength to govern yourself. You’re no longer like a broken-down city, vulnerable to attack. You become fortified, discerning, and anchored in peace.

Prayer:

Father, I yield myself to the work of Your Spirit. I choose to grow in the fruit of self-control. Help me silence the demands of the flesh and respond from a place of wisdom, peace, and power. I desire to pause, listen, and obey...not out of fear, but love and reverence for You. I trust that in my surrender, I will find strength. I yield to you to do what I cannot do in my strength. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
